Greater Wilshire/Hancock Park has a long and rich history dating back to the early days of Los Angeles. The area was originally part of Rancho La Brea, a Mexican land grant that was given to the Hancock family in 1828. The Hancock family built a large adobe home on the property, which became known as the “Hancock House.” In 1867, the Rancho La Brea lands were divided and sold off to various buyers, including Colonel Henry Washington Glasscock, who bought the Hancock House and surrounding land.
